Argireline, Acetyl Hexapeptide 8
Anti-Aging Peptide Wrinkle-Relaxer Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, formerly called Acetyl Hexapeptide-3.
Reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while visibly smoothing your complexion with Argireline® Peptide Solution Serum Booster or Acetyl Hexapeptide-8.
Argireline is Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, the peptide most associated with the look of expression lines: forehead creases, crow's feet, and the 11s between the brows. Blend it into your base at 10%, the manufacturer's highest recommended rate.
This is a formulation ingredient, not a finished serum. Do not apply it undiluted.
What is in the bottle
INCI: Water, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, Caprylyl Glycol
Three ingredients. Caprylyl glycol is the preservative.
Clear liquid. Water-soluble. Fragrance-free, paraben-free. 0.5 oz blue glass dropper bottle.
The science: Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 and the SNARE complex
Argireline is a six-amino-acid sequence, first described in 2002 by Blanes-Mira and colleagues in the International Journal of Cosmetic Science, and one of the most studied cosmetic peptides in use.
The published research centers on the SNARE complex, the protein assembly that mediates signaling at the neuromuscular junction. Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 has been studied for its interaction with SNARE complex formation, which is why it is grouped with the expression-line peptides rather than the collagen-support ones.
In a randomized, placebo-controlled study of 60 adults (Wang et al., American Journal of Clinical Dermatology, 2013), Argireline was applied twice daily to the lines around the eyes for 4 weeks. Visual grading showed a total anti-wrinkle efficacy of 48.9% in the Argireline group and 0% in the placebo group, and roughness measured on silicone skin replicas decreased in the Argireline group. The study abstract does not state the concentration used.
The supplier's efficacy work reports improved appearance of fine lines at a 2% concentration, with measured reductions in wrinkle depth and volume.
The supplier findings are the manufacturer's, from their efficacy dossier, and we reproduce them here under our license agreement. Published and supplier studies describe testing of the ingredient, not of a finished product you blend at home.
How much to add
We recommend 10%, the manufacturer's highest recommended rate, so you see results sooner. Using our house rate of 9 drops per 1% per fluid ounce:
| Concentration | Into 1 oz | Into 2 oz |
|---|---|---|
| 10% | 90 drops · 3.0 g | 180 drops · 6.0 g |
See the serum booster chart for full conversions. Every order includes an instruction guide and chart.
How to use it
- Choose a water-based serum, gel, lotion, or cream. Hyaluronic acid serum is the usual base.
- Add 90 drops per ounce of base (10%).
- Cap and shake well.
- Refrigerate what you are not using.
- Apply the finished blend morning and night to the forehead, around the eyes, and the lip area.
How to make a 10% Argireline solution at home
A 10% Argireline solution is one of the most searched peptide formats. You can make your own in about two minutes, and you will know the exact concentration because you counted it in.
| Finished amount | Base | Argireline for 10% |
|---|---|---|
| 1 oz | 1 oz hyaluronic acid serum | 90 drops · 3.0 g |
| 2 oz | 2 oz hyaluronic acid serum | 180 drops · 6.0 g |
- Sanitize a dropper bottle and your work surface.
- Pour in the hyaluronic acid serum. Use a preserved base like ours, not plain water, so the finished blend stays fresh.
- Count in 90 drops of Argireline per ounce, or weigh 3.0 g per ounce for accuracy.
- Cap, shake well, and label the bottle with "10% Argireline" and the date.
- Refrigerate and apply morning and night.
At 10%, one 0.5 oz bottle of Argireline makes about 5 oz of finished serum.
Argireline and Matrixyl 3000 in one serum
Argireline is used for the look of lines that come from movement. Matrixyl 3000 (Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1 and Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7) is used for the look of firmer, better-supported skin overall. They do different jobs, which is why formulators so often pair them.
| Blend (1 oz) | Argireline | Matrixyl 3000 Serum Booster | Total actives |
|---|---|---|---|
| Recommended (each at its maximum) | 90 drops (10%) | 72 drops (8%) | 18% |
Add both to 1 oz of hyaluronic acid serum, cap and shake. We recommend each peptide at the manufacturer's highest rate, 10% for Argireline and 8% for Matrixyl 3000, so you see results sooner.
Prefer a ready-made Matrixyl base? Add 90 drops of Argireline per ounce (10%) to our 20% Matrixyl 3000 Collagen Serum.
A note on evidence: each peptide has its own published or supplier testing. We have not found a published trial that tested these two together, so this pairing is formulation logic, not a tested combination claim.
What it is for
Argireline is formulated for the lines that come from movement rather than sun or slack, the ones that deepen because your face makes the same shapes every day.
- Forehead creases
- The 11s between the brows
- Crow's feet at the outer corners of the eyes
- Fine lines around the mouth
For firmness across the whole face rather than specific lines, Matrixyl 3000 is the one to reach for instead. They layer well together.
Why buy it raw
Finished products naming this ingredient rarely tell you how much is in them, and it is usually less than you would choose. Blend it yourself and the number is yours, because you counted the drops in.
At 10%, one 0.5 oz bottle blends about 5 oz of finished serum.
Blending with other peptides
Argireline layers with Snap-8, Syn-Ake, and Inyline. Each works on the look of expression lines through a different route, so combining them doesn't double up on the same thing. Keep the combined total sensible: the base still has to be mostly base.

Questions & Answers
Yes, you can use Argireline Peptide with water.
You can apply additional products, including sunscreen, as soon as the Argireline solution is dry.
Unfortunately, there are none. Peptides are "hydrophilic" or water-loving. Your best bet is to use an emulsifier to incorporate the peptides or add to a base of Hyaluronic Acid.
You can find some plant extracts that are oil-soluble however, they will have water in them and an emulsifier.

You can easily create a clean beauty product by adding a 10% concentration (the same that the Ordinary Solution uses) to a base of Hyaluronic Acid. You will make a formula that has the same 10% concentration as the Ordinary but without additional chemical additives or preservatives such as Phenoxyethanol.
